MISSIONS MOMENTS - RICK AND TAMMY SALMON - THAILAND

SALMON’S MINISTRIES IN THAILAND

JUNE-JULY 2019

SUMMERTIME AND NEW OPPORTUNITIES

June was a very exciting month for us. We had prepared for the start of summer with teams arriving all through May. Our first team arrived from Jacksonville, FL on the morning of June 5th. They started out their ministry here in Thailand with home school refugee kids for a great day of games and competition in the park.

These kids live their lives as modern day kids in THE HIDING PLACE.  The stress level is high on these families who have endured persecution in their  own  homeland  and  have  come to  Thailand  only to  live in constant fear of arrest and deportation.

With that in mind, the theme for the day was, “I Belong to God.” We  had  lessons  from God’s Word, and team competitions.  We ended  the day with a great  scavenger hunt, taking  photos  and reporting back their findings.

Our students are so appreciative of any and all activities we do with them. We are thankful to Westside Baptist for bringing manpower and energy after 30+ hours in transit to still run and direct the awesome activities on the very day they landed!!

REACHING OUT IN THE COMMUNITY

After years of ministry all over Thailand, we have realized that the more  we  can  be  in  our  community,  the  more  we  can  have  opportunity to talk to people about who Christ is and how He can change their life.  So when we heard we had churches coming, we started contacting high schools and technical colleges to see if they were interested in having their students connect with Americans to practice their English skills. The results were great and effective. The team had a great time as each person would lead a group of anywhere from 5 to 15 students for increments of 10-12 minutes. Then all the people on the team would switch to another group.

The  T.I.M.E.  Team  was  especially  helpful  in making connections with a nearby high school as they performed their mime skits about Jesus and how He changes lives. They came and performed at 4 schools, 1 prison and 2 churches. Nearly 2,000 people had the opportunity to see the plays and meet them. As a result, we have had 15 new teens start attending our English classes and youth meetings on Sunday afternoon. We are so thankful for churches who come to partner and work hard alongside us as we serve wherever God opens doors!

Continued next week.
